THOMAS COOK REPORTS 19% JUMP IN `98 NET

Thomas Cook (India) Ltd (TCIL), a leading travel agency posted a 19 percent growth in net profit to Rs17.24 crore for the year ended December 31, 1998 (Rs14.48 crore for the year ended December 31, 1997). Its sales turnover rose by 32 percent to Rs72.25 crore (Rs54.54 crore). It incurred interest charges of Rs3.55 crore (Rs1.58 crore). It has provided Rs3.67 crore for depreciation (Rs2.67 crore). International Travel House Ltd of the ITC group has posted a net profit of Rs3.20 crore in 1997-98 against Rs3.51 crore in 1996- 97. It has increased its turnover by 9.6 percent to Rs140.76 crore in 1997-98 against Rs128.39 crore in 1996-97. Its forex earnings increased to Rs7.3 crore from Rs1.9 crore.
